Electricity Regulation (Amendment) (Prohibition of Winter Disconnections) Bill 2021
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would let the Minister direct the utilities regulator to stop gas and electricity cut-offs for households that have fallen behind on bills during the annual fuel allowance season, and at other times the Minister thinks appropriate. Its purpose is to protect domestic customers from being left without heat or power during the colder months, when energy is most essential and hardest to afford.
Formal long title
Bill entitled Act to amend the Electricity Regulation Act, 1999, to include explicit provision for the Minister to provide policy direction to the Commission for Regulation of Utilities, to introduce a moratorium on disconnections of gas and electricity supply to domestic customers for non-payment during the annual fuel allowance season or during other periods of time the Minister may deem appropriate.
