Employment Permits (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2021
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Aimed at protecting migrant workers on general employment permits, especially in meat processing, dairy and horticulture, by requiring some employers to offer paid sick leave and by making it easier for workers to change employer in the first year if their job is unsafe, abusive or damaging to their wellbeing. It would also let some workers who have made reasonable efforts to get a permit bring complaints to the Workplace Relations Commission, and it would help ensure unpaid awards still get paid if an employer becomes insolvent.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the protection of certain foreign nationals in employment in the State and for that purpose to amend the Employment Permits Act 2003, the Employment Permits Act 2006, the Protection of Employees (Employers’ Insolvency) Act 1984 and the Employment Permits Regulations 2017 and to provide for related matters.
