Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) (Amendment) (Pets) Bill 2021

Would require courts to impose a mandatory minimum sentence on adults who steal pets or commit certain related fraud and theft offences involving pets. It also sets out what counts as a pet for these purposes and makes the necessary technical changes to bring the new rule into force. The aim is to treat pet theft more seriously and give stronger protection to owners and animals.

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001 to make specific provision for sentencing for certain offences in relation to pets; and to provide for related matters.
