Judicial Council (Amendment) Bill 2021

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

It would require insurance companies to give the Central Bank information about how the personal injuries guidelines are affecting insurance costs, including claims payouts and premiums. The Central Bank would then report that information to the Finance Minister, who must lay it before the Oireachtas at least once a year. It matters because it is meant to make it clearer whether the guidelines are helping bring down insurance costs and whether any savings are actually reaching customers.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to provide for amendments to the Judicial Council Act 2019, to provide for the making of regulations to require insurance providers to provide information to the Central Bank of Ireland relating to the effect of personal injuries guidelines and related matters.
