National Lottery (Amendment) Bill 2021
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The National Lottery (Amendment) Bill 2021 would stop bookmakers and other private gambling companies from using National Lottery draws or products to promote their own betting offers. It would make that kind of use a criminal offence, raise the penalties, and apply those penalties to companies as well as individuals. It matters because the National Lottery is meant to support “good causes” and has consumer safeguards, while private operators could otherwise use its trusted name and draws to drive more gambling.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the National Lottery Act 2013 to prohibit the use of the National Lottery or its products in betting offers by entities other than the National Lottery.
