Equality (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2021
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposed law would add a new protected category for people from a disadvantaged social and economic background, so they could not be treated worse in work, training, services, housing, education or clubs because of where they come from, how they speak, or the area they live in. It would change Ireland’s main equality laws to give people a way to challenge this kind of discrimination and send a clear message that social class prejudice is not acceptable.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for prohibiting discrimination on the basis of a person's social and economic disadvantaged background; for those purposes to amend the Employment Equality Act 1998 and the Equal Status Act 2000; and to provide for related matters.
