Trade Union Recognition Bill 2021
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The Trade Union Recognition Bill 2021 would give workers a legal route to have their union officially recognised if union members make up at least 20% of staff in a workplace, or in a particular group within it. It would let workers take a recognition dispute to the Workplace Relations Commission and then the Labour Court, which could order employers to negotiate with the union and allow union representatives access to the workplace. It matters because it would strengthen workers’ ability to bargain together and improve their chances of securing better pay and conditions.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide a legal mechanism for trade union recognition for workers who comprise at least 20 per cent of the employees in an employment (or any category within that employment).
