Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) (Foetal Pain Relief) Bill 2021
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would require pain relief to be given to a foetus in certain later terminations of pregnancy where pain is likely, unless there is an emergency and it would not be practical to do so. It would also require extra information about that step to be included in the reports and records already kept under the 2018 abortion law. It matters because it would add a new safeguard to later-term procedures and make those cases subject to more detailed recording and oversight.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for pain relief for the foetus in certain cases of termination of pregnancy; and to provide for related matters.
