Planning and Development (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2021

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

A shorter version of planning law would give An Bord Pleanála less time to decide appeals and referrals, aiming to cut delays for businesses, householders, and others waiting on planning decisions. Most decision deadlines would be reduced from 18 weeks to 12 weeks, and one would fall from 14 weeks to 10 weeks. It matters because it could speed up planning outcomes, but it also leaves less time for complex cases to be examined.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Planning and Development Act 2000 to ensure that every appeal or referral is determined within a period of 12 weeks beginning on the date of receipt by the Board of the appeal or referral, or, such other period as the Minister may prescribe in accordance with section 126(4) and section 221(4), either generally or in respect of a particular class or classes of appeals or referrals.
