The Nursing Homes Support Scheme (Amendment) Bill 2021 would let more family farms and businesses qualify for the “Fair Deal” three-year cap on nursing home charges, if a family successor agrees to keep working the farm or business for six years. It also sets up checks, repayment rules, and penalties for false information, while giving the Health Service Executive new powers to manage applications, charges, appeals, and reporting. Its main purpose is to protect family-run farms and businesses from being forced to sell up to meet care costs, while still making sure State support is properly controlled.

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Nursing Homes Support Scheme Act 2009, to make further provision for the financial assessment of persons applying for financial support to be made available to them in respect of long-term residential care services who have, or had, an interest in a farm or relevant business and comply with certain conditions; and to provide for related matters.
