Eviction Ban Bill 2022

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Would stop landlords from ending most residential tenancies for 12 months, with the option to extend the ban if the housing emergency and cost-of-living crisis are still judged to be severe. It also covers licensees and says any eviction notices already given, but due to take effect during the ban, would have to be pushed back until the emergency period ends. The aim is to prevent people losing their homes during the housing crisis, while still allowing evictions for serious property damage, anti-social behaviour, or insurance-related reasons.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Residential Tenancies Act 2004 to ban evictions for the duration of the current housing emergency.
