Ban on Dumping New Products Bill 2022
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Aimed at stopping companies from destroying brand-new, unsold non-food goods, this measure would require those products to be reused through charities, second-hand shops or other social enterprises instead of being dumped. It would let the Minister decide which kinds of products are covered, with categories such as electronics, clothing, furniture, books and school supplies, while excluding items that would be unsafe to reuse. Breaking the rules, or destroying goods to get around them, would be a criminal offence.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to facilitate the prohibition of dumping new non-food related products, to empower the Minister to prescribe for such products in regulation, to create an offence for failing to comply with the provisions of the Act, and to provide for related matters.
