Education (Relationships and Sexuality Education) (Amendment) Bill 2022
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
A new rule would require schools to deliver relationships and sexuality education without their religious character affecting what is taught. It would apply in both primary and post-primary schools, and it also points to social, personal and health education as part of the wider area. The Minister for Education would have to publish a report within three months explaining how the Government will respond to an earlier committee report, including how to reflect the views of LGBTQU+ students and students with special intellectual needs. It matters because it would push for more consistent, inclusive sex education in all schools, regardless of school ethos.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Education Act 1988 (as amended) to make provision for the implementation of relationship and sexuality education in primary and post-primary schools without any influence of religious ethos on relationship and sexuality education, and to provide for related matters.
