Criminal Law (Human Trafficking) (Amendment) Bill 2022

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Adds a new system to spot possible victims of human trafficking earlier, lets the Minister formally recognise someone as a suspected victim, and gives special protection for trafficked children, including the option of appointing a guardian to act in their best interests. It also creates an appeals process, sets out support services for suspected victims, and would stop people being prosecuted for offences they were forced to commit because they were trafficked. The aim is to improve victim identification and support, and to make Ireland’s anti-trafficking response stronger.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Criminal Law (Human Trafficking) Act 2008 and to provide for related matters.
