Ukraine Solidarity Bill 2022

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

A public bill sponsored by Jim O’Callaghan, this aims to show Ireland’s support for Ukraine by creating Irish legal rules around the crime of aggression tied to Russia’s invasion and Belarus’s support for it. It would let Irish courts deal with some related criminal and civil matters, strengthen penalties for breaking sanctions, and help with cooperation with other countries on prosecutions and asset recovery. It also seeks to speed up recognition of professional qualifications for people displaced by the war, so they can work more easily in Ireland.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to provide comprehensive solidarity to Ukraine in the face of the unlawful war of aggression waged by the Russian Federation with the support of Belarus, to provide for criminal and civil liability in respect of the crime of aggression and related wrongs and for the recognition of qualifications of displaced persons, to make provision with extra-territorial effect in accordance with Article 29.8 of the Constitution and to provide for related matters.
