Cost of Renewables Taskforce Bill 2022

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Would require the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications to set up a cross-government taskforce to look at why producing renewable electricity in Ireland is so expensive compared with other European countries. The taskforce would talk to stakeholders and, within six months, send the Minister practical proposals to bring down the cost per megawatt-hour. The aim is to make renewable power cheaper to produce, which could help lower electricity prices for consumers and make Irish renewable energy more competitive, including for export.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to require the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications to establish a cross-departmental taskforce to examine the cost of producing renewable energy in Ireland; to provide for this taskforce to consult with stakeholders and deliver within six months policy recommendations to the Minister on ways to reduce the cost of producing renewable energy per megawatt-hour.
