National Minimum Wage (Equal Pay for Young Workers) Bill 2022
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The measure would remove the lower minimum wage rates that currently apply to workers aged 16 to 20, so young workers would be paid the same minimum wage as older workers. It also updates the existing minimum wage law to reflect that change. The reason it matters is simple: it ends age-based pay differences for minimum-wage workers and gives young people the same legal floor on pay as everyone else.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the National Minimum Wage Act 2000 to remove the lower minimum wage rates imposed on those employed between the ages of 16 and 20.
