Bretton Woods Agreements (Amendment) Bill 2022

Public bill · Government · Presented

Ireland would join and help finance the IMF’s New Arrangements to Borrow, allowing the Central Bank to lend to the IMF if needed, with the Minister for Finance guaranteeing repayment if the IMF ever failed to pay back. It would also let the Government make limited grant payments to IMF trust funds that provide debt relief and support for poorer countries hit by disasters, while raising the caps on Ireland’s contributions to the Poverty Reduction and Growth Trust and updating old laws to match current IMF names and arrangements. It matters because it strengthens Ireland’s role in supporting the international financial system and humanitarian debt relief.

Formal long title
