Employment Equality (Abolition of Mandatory Retirement Age) Bill 2022

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Abolishes employers’ power to impose a compulsory retirement age in most jobs, so people can choose whether to keep working past 65. It would still allow special retirement ages for some security-related roles. The aim is to give older workers more choice, reduce age-based discrimination, and let people work longer if they need to or want to.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Employment Equality Act 1998 and to provide for related matters
