Local Government and Residential Tenancies (Amendment) (Carrigaline Rent Pressure Zone) Bill 2022

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The proposed law would make the whole Carrigaline local electoral area a rent pressure zone, which would limit how fast rents can rise there. It also says that if most of a local electoral area is already in a rent pressure zone, the Minister should generally extend that status to the whole area when that would be fair and fit the purpose of the housing rules. In plain terms, it is meant to stop rent controls being applied unevenly across the same area and to give renters more consistent protection.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to make provision whereby the entire Carrigaline local electoral area shall be prescribed as a rent pressure zone; to ensure that where a substantial area of a local electoral area is prescribed as a rent pressure zone, the local electoral area shall be prescribed as a rent pressure zone in its entirety; and for those purposes to amend the Local Government Act 2019 and the Residential Tenancies Act 2004.
