Living Wage Bill 2022

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Raises Ireland’s minimum pay system so it is meant to reach a genuine living wage, not just the current minimum. It would rename the Low Pay Commission as the Living Wage Commission and require it to recommend pay rates that are fair, sustainable, and gradually increased until they reach a level tied to a basic standard of living. It matters because it would push wages up for low-paid workers, especially women, and aim to keep pay in step with the real cost of living.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the law relating to the determination, declaration and review of a national minimum hourly rate of pay for employees so as to arrive at and thereafter preserve an hourly rate that represents a living income; and to provide for related matters.
