Regulation of Display of Electoral and Polling Posters and Other Advertisements Bill 2022

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The proposed law would tighten the rules on election and referendum posters and other campaign advertisements. It would require them to be put only on designated structures approved by the local authority, with clear limits on size, number, and where they can be placed. It would also update related rules so these structures are treated consistently under litter and planning laws, and it would set a standard window for when they can be used around polling day. The aim is to reduce visual clutter and make campaign advertising more orderly and easier to control.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the law relating to the display of posters and other advertisements for elections or polls relating to the Presidential Election Acts 1992 to 2006, the Electoral Acts 1992 to 2019, the Local Government Acts 1925 to 2019, the European Parliament Elections Acts 1992 to 2019 and the Referendum Acts 1992 to 2013; and to provide for related matters.
