Dereliction and Building Regeneration Bill 2022

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Aims to tackle derelict buildings and speed up the reuse of empty space above shops and in older buildings for homes. It would widen the kinds of neglected properties that can be listed as derelict, require local authorities to publish that register online and use more modern ways to contact owners, and extend the rules to more villages, towns and cities. It would also create a faster “Town Centre First” approval route for refurbishing or changing the use of existing buildings, backed by technical guidance and a national support office, to reduce delays and improve compliance.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to provide for identification, management, restoration and bringing back to use of derelict buildings and to simplify and expedite applications to refurbish or change the use of upper floors or ‘over the shop’ for residential use by establishing in each local authority a special planning and building control approval system to be called a Town Centre First application process.
