Education (Affordable School Uniforms) Bill 2022

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The bill would require the Minister for Education to set rules for schools so uniforms are affordable for families. Schools would have to make uniform policies clear, limit expensive branded items, allow parents to buy uniform pieces from different shops, support second-hand uniforms, and avoid frequent changes that force families to keep buying new items. It also aims to make schools take a fairer, more understanding approach when a family cannot meet uniform rules because of cost.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to make provision whereby the Minister for Education shall make regulations governing the implementation of an affordable school uniform policy in schools; and for this purpose to amend the Education Act of 1998.
