Protection of Accident Victims from Non-Consensual Recording of Images Bill 2022
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
A person who films or shares images of someone who is dead, badly injured or in shock after an accident or emergency, without consent, could commit an offence if it seriously invades privacy or causes distress to the person or their family and friends. The proposal is aimed at stopping the kind of online sharing that can deepen grief and shock for families before they even know what has happened. It allows a defence where sharing is needed to get help or where it is done by Gardaí, and it also leaves room for genuine public-interest reporting.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to prohibit the recording or publication without consent of certain images of persons who are dead, seriously injured or in shock as a result of an accident or other emergency, and to provide for connected matters.
