Broadcasting (Gender, Cultural and Other Diversities) Bill 2022
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Aiming to make Irish broadcasting better reflect the people it serves, this proposal would require broadcasters to cover a wider range of voices and interests, including gender, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity and social background. It would also require equal participation by men and women in news and current affairs programmes, and set aside at least half of music airtime for music composed or performed by women. In practical terms, it is about making radio and TV more inclusive and representative.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to secure in broadcasting a better reflection of the diversity of the people, for that purpose to amend the statutory duties of broadcasters, to provide for a quota of female composers or performers in relation to music content, and to provide for related matters.
