National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) (Amendment) Bill 2022
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The measure would change the Garda vetting system by creating a “general consent” register so people who are repeatedly vetted, especially volunteers, would not have to fill out the full process each time. If someone opts in, organisations could use that standing consent for up to three years, but the person would be removed from the register if a criminal record, certain concerning information, or other key changes come to light, and people under 18 could not be included. It aims to make vetting less repetitive and easier while still protecting children and vulnerable adults.
