Standards in Public Office (Amendment) Bill 2023
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The bill would strengthen Ireland’s ethics rules for public office by letting the Standards in Public Office Commission start its own investigations, rather than waiting for a complaint, and by requiring its annual report to go straight to the Oireachtas. It would also make it an offence not to declare required interests, carrying a possible fine or up to six months in prison, and it would widen the list of interests that must be disclosed to include significant debts, except those linked to the family home.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to make certain amendments to the Standards in Public Office Act 2001 and the Ethics in Public Office Act 1995; and to provide for related matters.
