Unfair Dismissals (Increased Protections for Workers) (Amendment) Bill 2023

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The Bill would broaden unfair dismissal protections so they apply to all employees, regardless of how long they have worked, and to workers aged 16 and over. It would also strengthen protection against dismissal linked to race, sexual orientation, Traveller identity, age, trade union activity, religion, politics, whistleblowing, pregnancy, leave, or taking part in industrial action, while changing compensation rules so awards are based on the case’s circumstances and any financial losses are fully repaid.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Unfair Dismissals Act 1977 to increase workers protections under that Act by broadening the categories of workers included in that Act, further protecting workers who engage in industrial action, shielding workers under protected categories from unfair dismissals, and reforming the system of compensation afforded under that Act.
