Civil Liability (Schools) Bill 2023

Public bill · Private Member · Presented

Schools would get clearer legal protection if a student is injured in an accident on school grounds. Liability would generally not arise where the school had proper supervision in place and had followed health, safety and building rules, and teachers would also be protected when giving first aid, advice or help in an emergency unless they act in bad faith or with gross negligence. This matters because it gives schools more certainty while still expecting them to keep pupils properly supervised and safe.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the law related to civil liability for schools.
