Local Authority Public Administration Bill 2023

The proposal would require local authorities to acknowledge written queries within 5 days and give a full reply within 15 to 20 days, unless they have a valid reason not to. It also gives people and public representatives a route to complain to the Ombudsman if a local authority fails to respond properly. In addition, local authority chief executives could be asked to appear before the Public Accounts Committee about financial procedures and audit matters.

Bill entitled an Act to compel local authorities to provide members of the public and public representatives with substantive replies to written communications within a prescribed period of time and to allow for local authority chief executives to appear before the Public Accounts Committee of Dáil Éireann.
