Legal Aid (Amendment) Bill 2023

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The measure would make civil legal aid easier to get, so more people can get legal help in non-criminal cases and have a better chance of getting justice. It would change the rules on who qualifies and adjust the financial eligibility tests and the contributions people may have to pay for legal advice and legal aid. The accompanying memorandum says the aim is to widen access to civil legal aid, which has been harder to obtain than criminal legal aid.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Civil Legal Aid Act 1995, and to provide for a more effective legal aid system.
