National Minimum Wage (Inclusion of Apprentices) Bill 2023
Public bill · Private Member · Presented
Apprentices would be brought into the national minimum wage system, so they would no longer be automatically excluded from minimum pay rules. The change would amend the existing minimum wage law to make clear that apprentices covered by apprenticeship arrangements can be treated as employees for these purposes. It matters because it could raise pay protection for apprentices and close a gap in how low-paid training work is currently treated.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the inclusion of apprentices within the application of the National Minimum Wage Acts 2000 and 2015; for that purpose to amend the National Minimum Wage Act 2000; and to provide for related matters.
