Ban Private Jet Aircraft from Irish Airspace Bill 2023

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Aims to stop private jets from flying through Irish airspace, while still allowing regular commercial flights and a few limited exceptions such as medical evacuations, national security, foreign state flights, some State aircraft, private military jets, and flight training. It would also create penalties for breaking the ban, including fines or prison terms. The reason given is climate: the explanatory note says private jets are far more polluting per passenger than commercial planes or trains, and their use is growing.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Irish Aviation Authority Act 1993 to ban the use of private jets in Irish airspace.
