Protection of Hares Bill 2023

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Proposed changes would stop the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine from issuing licences for hare coursing, so live hares could no longer be used for that activity. It would also bring hares under the full protection of the Wildlife Act 1976, reflecting the sponsor’s aim to improve animal welfare and protect a native species that has cultural and environmental importance in Ireland.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to prohibit the granting by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine of licences for the purpose of hare coursing and to afford the hare species the full protection of the Wildlife Act 1976.
