Consumer Insurance Contracts (Amendment) Bill 2023
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The measure would change consumer insurance law so insurers can no longer use “average clauses” in non-life insurance policies. In plain terms, that means a person’s payout should not be reduced just because the insurer says the cover was underdeclared or the loss should be shared by formula. It matters because these clauses can leave customers with less compensation than they expected after a claim.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Consumer Insurance Contracts Act 2019 to prevent the use of any average clause by insurance providers.
