Gradam an Uachtaráin Bill 2023

Public bill · Private Member · Presented

Gradam an Uachtaráin would create a new State honour for people whose achievements or service are seen as exceptional, whether they are Irish citizens or others who have made a major contribution to Ireland. It would be presented by the President as a medal and lapel button, and recipients could use the letters “G.U.” after their name. Only 12 awards could be made each year, with no more than 4 going to non-Irish people, and nominations could come from the public or from the award council itself. The aim is to give Ireland its own formal way of recognising outstanding success and contribution at the highest level.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to facilitate the conferral by the State of an honour to be known as Gradam an Uachtaráin to recognise the exceptional achievements of its citizens and the outstanding contributions of others; and to provide for related matters.
