Broadcasting (Restriction of Salaries) Bill 2023
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
A cap would be placed on pay at RTÉ and TG4, stopping either broadcaster from agreeing salaries or fees above the Minister for Communications’ salary. It would also force both organisations to publish the names and pay of anyone earning more than a TD, and to disclose sanctions or fines tied to breaches of impartiality rules. Existing contracts would not be cancelled, but outside paid work would be limited and higher-value extra work would need advance approval.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Broadcasting Act 2009 to provide for transparency in the public interest in relation to the remuneration of certain individuals pursuant to contracts of employment and contracts for services with corporations, and to provide for connected matters.
