Gas (Amendment) and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill 2023
Public bill · Government · Presented
Ervia would be wound up and its gas-related work folded into Gas Networks Ireland, which would become the single State company running the gas network. Staff, contracts, records, property, debts and ongoing legal matters would move across to GNI, with staff keeping no worse pay and pension terms. The changes also tidy up older gas laws, set out how GNI’s board and State ownership would work after the merger, and remove Ervia from the list of bodies partly exempt from freedom of information. It matters because it simplifies how Ireland’s gas network is owned and run, while keeping it publicly controlled.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the dissolution of Ervia and the transfer of functions, assets, liabilities, records and staff to Gas Networks Ireland and for those and other purposes to amend and extend the Gas Act 1976 and the Gas Regulation Act 2013; to amend the Freedom of Information Act 2014; and to provide for related matters.
