Competition and Consumer Protection (Unfair Prices) Bill 2023

Aims to give the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission extra powers to investigate and challenge unfair prices charged by companies that already have market dominance. It would let the Commission carry out studies, gather information, require relevant records or attendance, and publish findings, including looking at costs and profit margins in Ireland. It also creates offences for obstructing the Commission or giving false information, with fines or prison possible.

Bill entitled an Act to enable and assist the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission better to perform its functions in relation to protecting consumers from abuse by undertakings of a dominant position by imposing unfair purchase prices, for that purpose to amend the Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2014, and to provide for related matters.
