The Royal Hibernian Academy (Amendment of Charter) Bill 2023
Private bill · Private · By Application
The Royal Hibernian Academy would be modernised by raising its membership limit from 30 to 55, so more artists can join. It would also create a permanent Keeper role, remove an old cap on the value of gifts or purchases the Academy can receive, update the qualifying profession from engravers to printmakers, remove the rule that meetings must be held in Dublin or nearby, and change the rules for choosing a vice president when the President is absent. These changes matter because they bring the Academy’s governing rules up to date and give it more room to grow.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Charter of 1861 under which the Royal Hibernian Academy is incorporated and to alter the provisions relating to membership thereof and to provide for other matters connected therewith.
