No. 91 of 2023Thirty-ninth Amendment of the Constitution (The Family) Bill 2023
Public bill · Government · Presented
Changes the Constitution so it says the family can be based on marriage or on other lasting relationships, not just marriage. It also removes older wording that tied the family’s constitutional protection to marriage alone, while keeping a special protection for marriage itself. In practice, it would broaden who is recognised as a family in the Constitution and reflect modern family life.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Constitution.
