Arts (Amendment) (Artist Workspaces) Bill 2024

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The Arts (Amendment) (Artist Workspaces) Bill 2024 aims to increase the supply of affordable studios and workspaces for artists, including spaces run by artists themselves. It would give the Arts Council a clearer role in helping to acquire, develop, manage, and provide these spaces, and it also spells out that local authorities can help make them available. In simple terms, it is about making it easier for artists to find and keep affordable places to work. That matters because workspace costs can be a major barrier for artists, especially in cities and other high-rent areas.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to increase the amount of affordable artist studios and workspaces and affordable artist-run workspaces available; to confer functions on the Arts Council to acquire, develop and manage affordable artist workspaces and artist-run workspaces; to make specific reference to the ability of a local authority to facilitate the provision of affordable artist workspaces and affordable artist-run workspaces; and to provide for related matters.
