Maternity Protection (Amendment) Bill 2024
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The *Maternity Protection (Amendment) Bill 2024* would change maternity leave rules so a woman diagnosed with cancer or another serious illness during pregnancy could postpone starting maternity leave, or delay additional maternity leave, until a later time. It also defines what counts as cancer and a serious illness, and sets out when the changes would begin. This matters because it aims to protect women whose health needs interrupt pregnancy, so they do not lose maternity leave time while dealing with treatment.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend and extend the Maternity Protection Act 1994 and to provide for postponement of maternity leave where a mother has been diagnosed with cancer or other serious illness during pregnancy, and to provide for related matters.
