Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Formaldehyde) Bill 2024
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would require the Health and Safety Authority to draw up and publish practical guidance on the safe use and disposal of formaldehyde, especially where it is used in embalming. It also says that guidance should take account of other rules already covering chemicals, carcinogens and indoor air quality, so the advice is consistent with existing safety protections. The guidance would be brought into force quickly, rather than waiting for a long approval process. In plain terms, it aims to give workers and employers clearer safety rules for handling a dangerous substance that can pose serious health risks.
Formal long title
