Civil Registration (Electronic Registration) Bill 2024
Public bill · Government · Presented
The measures would let parents register births and stillbirths online and create a similar online process for death registration, while keeping in-person services in place. It also shortens the time for registering deaths, lets a death certificate be issued sooner in some coroner cases, broadens access to stillbirth records through a new public-facing record, and updates rules so father details are provided more consistently. The changes matter because they make registration faster, more resilient during disruptions, and easier for families to complete at a time of loss.
