Health (Scoliosis Treatment Services) Bill 2024
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
A specialised scoliosis treatment service would have to be set up and kept running by the Health Service Executive for children and adults living in the State, covering both hospital admissions and outpatient care. The Minister for Health would have to set waiting-time priorities and targets, taking account of best practice, patient outcomes and the effect on other health services. The HSE would also have to make sure enough staff, surgeons, therapists and treatment facilities are available, and could arrange urgent treatment abroad if needed. Regular reports, waiting-list updates and Ministerial guidelines would have to be published and laid before the Oireachtas, so the public and TDs can see whether the service is working and where delays remain.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to impose on the Health Service Executive certain special duties and powers in relation to the establishment of a specialised treatment service for the inpatient and outpatient treatment of children and adults of spinal scoliosis who are resident in the State and to confer certain duties and powers on the Minister for Health in relation to the service to be established and to provide for related matters.
