Courts, Civil Law, Criminal Law and Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2024

Public bill · Government · Presented

The main changes are to add one more judge to the Court of Appeal, raise fines for carriers that bring people to Ireland without proper travel documents, and increase prison terms for several knife and offensive-weapon offences. It also responds to a Supreme Court ruling on personal injury guidelines, fixes small drafting errors in two criminal justice laws, and raises the retirement age for some uniformed public servants such as prison officers, firefighters and Gardaí, with new powers for Ministers to set those retirement rules.
