Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2024

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The proposal would create a legal way for some terminally ill adults in Ireland to get help to end their lives, subject to strict checks. It sets out who could qualify, requires proof of decision-making capacity and written declarations, and adds safeguards such as medical assessments, counselling, record-keeping, oversight, and the right for healthcare workers to refuse on conscience grounds. It matters because it would be a major change in end-of-life law and medical practice.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to establish a legal framework for assisted dying in Ireland.
