Bail (Amendment) Bill 2024
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Changes the bail rules so that an offence under section 39 of the Domestic Violence Act 2018 is specifically listed among the offences already set out in the bail law. In plain terms, it makes sure that this domestic violence offence is clearly recognised when courts are deciding bail matters. It matters because clearer bail rules can affect how seriously repeat or relevant offending is treated, especially in cases involving domestic abuse. The measure would start three months after it is passed, unless the Justice Minister brings it in sooner.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Schedule to the Bail Act 1997 so as to include a reference to an offence under section 39 of the Domestic Violence Act 2018 and to provide for related matters.
